Administration: Type of School: KSB was declared asbestos free by Godsey Asbestos Consultants on October 19, 2000. The original KSB Operations and Maintenance Plan written by Metro Service Laboratories which originally identified asbestos hazards at KSB is on file in the business office. This plan serves as a record of inspections and laboratory analyses and contains all paper work associated abatement activities and response actions. Although we are not aware of any asbestos remaining at KSB we want you to know that the records of past abatement actions are always open for inspection. Parking Spaces/Availability: Parking available on campus and/or on adjoining Frankfort Avenue School Size: 70 students Classroom Size: 10 or less Academic Departments: English, science, Arts and Humanities, Physical Education, Mathematics, Vocational, Social Studies, and Community Based Instruction Campus Support Services: Orientation & Mobility, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and extensive outreach services are available to local school districts serving students with visual impairments and their families Computer Capabilities: PC, all classrooms and dorms are internet accessible, computers are equipped with software for accessibility by students and teachers who are blind and visually impaired; braille printers are available Extracurricular Activities: Athletics and Forensics, After School Work Program, Scouts and Venture Crew, Choir, Radio Broadcasting Club, Fitness Club, Weightlifting Club and Music Lessons Sports: Students compete in the North Central Association of Schools for the Blind (NCASB) in Goalball, Wrestling, Swimming, Cheerleading, Track, and Forensics Support to Local School Districts: KSB Outreach Department supports proficient student performance by assisting local school districts in reducing barriers to learning associated with a vision loss and by providing students access to the general curriculum, the Program of Studies, Core Content, and Expanded Core Curriculum for Students with Visual Impairments. Professional development is also provided to statewide teachers of the visually impaired, service providers, and support staff through KSB Outreach programs such as Gateways to Independence and other trainings. Through the Kentucky Instructional Materials Resource Center (KIMRC), students who are blind and visually impaired are provided with textbooks in braille and large print and other educational materials for use in local school programs. The resource center also conducts an annual registration of Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired. Support to Families: The Family Support Center promotes and engages parents, caregivers and other family members as full partners in the education process. Outreach staff takes an active role in collaboration with other agencies in planning and hosting regional and/or statewide activities that promote family awareness and involvement in their child's education.
